Minibus with a Driver in Nantes
Nantes is easy to enjoy with a small group: a castle in the centre, giant machines on the island and the Atlantic coast about an hour away. A minibus with a driver links them all, and nobody spends the afternoon hunting for parking.
From the airport or the station
From Nantes Atlantique to the Château des ducs de Bretagne is only 13 km, so allow around 20 minutes on quiet roads. That makes an airport pickup a gentle start: bags in the back, and you reach the hotel before anyone has finished checking their messages.
Arriving at Gare de Nantes? Use the north exit for tram line 1 and the city centre, or the south exit for the Cité des Congrès side, and tell the driver which one; it saves wandering round the forecourt.

Hopping on and off
The tourist office, Le Voyage à Nantes, sets a 30-minute limit at its coach drop-off points. The useful ones: rue Henri IV serves the Château, Place du Maréchal-Foch the cathedral, rue Gambetta the Musée d'arts, and Boulevard de la Prairie-au-Duc is the stop when you are heading to the Machines de l'île, though that one has seen long roadworks in 2026, so ask the driver. Fair warning: the cathedral stop gets tricky during the April and September fairs.
To park, try the Hangar à Bananes end of the Île de Nantes (13 free spaces, no time limit), Boulevard de Seattle near the station (20 spaces), or the Gare Sud coach station, bookable at least 72 hours ahead.

A low-emission zone with set hours
Nantes runs its low-emission zone only at weekday peaks inside the périphérique: from 07:00 until 09:00 and from 16:00 until 19:00, with public holidays exempt. During those windows a Crit'Air sticker is needed and unclassified vehicles may not enter. A mid-morning start also keeps you out of the rush, but do check the current rules, as they can change.
Out of town
Clisson is about 40 minutes away, an easy half-day. Westwards, Guérande and La Baule are each about 1 hour 10 minutes, so the walled town and the beach fit into one outing. The Puy du Fou is about the same distance inland, and Angers about an hour.
Mont-Saint-Michel is about 2 hours 25 minutes to the coach park. If it is on your list, think about a night nearby rather than doing it all in one go.
Your questions, answered
Do the Machines de l'île take groups?
Yes, but group visits must be booked at least 20 days ahead, and group terms start at 15 paying adults. Secure that booking first and fit the minibus times around it.
Does a small group need to book the Château des ducs de Bretagne?
Groups of 5 or more must book. The rue Henri IV stop is a delivery bay where setting down is allowed, right by the castle.
What about an evening show at Le LAPS?
Le LAPS opened in September 2026 in Hall 4 of the Parc des Expositions. It is on tram line 1 at Ranzay, but a minibus home after a late show is often easier for a group.
