Bordeaux airport pickups for wine country groups
Most groups landing at Bordeaux-Mérignac are here for the wine, a château wedding or a few days by the ocean. The airport is close to the city, and a little planning makes the meeting easy, because no coach pickup point is published.
How the meeting works here
The airport publishes neither a coach pickup point nor an area for cars with driver. In practice your driver greets you as you come out of the terminal and you walk together to wherever the vehicle is waiting, in a car park or drop-off area. The precise spot gets confirmed with the airport at booking.
There are three terminals: Hall A, Hall B and billi. Send the flight number so your driver goes to the right one.

Where a minibus helps
The outdoor P Express car park opposite the halls is used for pickups and drop-offs, but only for vehicles up to 3.00 m high, and for three visits in 24 hours. The drop-off zones at departures have the same height limit, which is too low for a full-size coach. A minibus under that height can use the short-stay areas; a coach needs another arrangement.
The terminals
- Terminal billi
- Hall B
- Hall A
Handy to know at Aéroport de Bordeaux-Mérignac
- The taxi rank is outside Hall A and works from the first to the last flight.
- The drop-off zones (dépose-minute) are on the departures level of Halls A and B: the first 5 minutes are free, the driver must stay with the vehicle, and the height limit is 3.00 m.
- The 30'DIRECT shuttle runs from Hall B, gate 7, to Gare Saint-Jean in about 30 minutes, every day of the year.
- Since 6 December 2025 tram line F serves the airport, from a stop in front of the Parking Express near Hall B: about 35 minutes to Hôtel de Ville and about 45 minutes to Gare Saint-Jean, every 10 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays and every 15 minutes on Sundays.
- All three terminals close to the public from midnight to 03:00.
Arriving close to midnight
Between midnight and 03:00 the public cannot get into any of the three terminals. If your flight is due late, mention it, so the outdoor meeting point is agreed beforehand and nobody is left in the car park wondering.
Into Bordeaux and out to the vineyards
The drive to the Place de la Comédie is around 15 km, about 30 minutes in light traffic. The low-emission zone inside the rocade bars only vehicles with no Crit'Air classification. It is the current rule but not a settled one, so check before travel.
Many groups go straight to the vines. From the city, Margaux and Saint-Émilion are each about 45 minutes and Sauternes about 50. Saint-Émilion's Villemaurine coach park, at the top of the village, has 18 spaces and a 10-hour limit; the Parking de la gare is about 1 to 1.5 km south. Arcachon and the Dune du Pilat are about an hour from Bordeaux.
Your questions, answered
Is there a tram from the airport?
Yes. Line F, opened on 6 December 2025, leaves from a stop in front of the Parking Express near Hall B and reaches Hôtel de Ville in about 35 minutes. The 30'DIRECT shuttle reaches Gare Saint-Jean in about 30 minutes.
Can we go from the plane to a first tasting?
If the timings work, yes. Tell us the château and your landing time. Drivers' hours shape the length of the day, so a long-haul arrival followed by a tasting needs a realistic plan.
What size of vehicle suits a wine weekend?
For 8 to 20 friends, a minibus is easier to manage on narrow vineyard roads than a big coach, and there is room for a few cases on the way back.
