Wedding transport for your guests and for the two of you
A good wedding day has a rhythm: guests arrive together, nobody worries about driving after the toasts, and the couple turn up on time. A minibus or two and a car with driver cover most of it.
From the hotel to the ceremony
List where your guests are staying and the time they need to be seated. A minibus carries up to sixteen guests at a time; for thirty or so, a midi-coach of 29 to 35 seats moves everyone in a single run.
Country venues in Provence, among the Bordeaux vineyards or around Lake Annecy are often down narrow lanes. Ask the venue where a vehicle can turn and wait. A minibus often reaches the door where a large coach would have to stop at the road.

The car for the couple
The couple's car is a VTC, the French term for a car with driver. It works only on prior booking, so the arrival and the couple's exit are arranged ahead, never hailed on the day. You will recognise it by the VTC sticker on both windscreens, and its driver carries a professional card from the préfecture.
Guest minibuses and coaches with more than 9 seats are supplied by registered road passenger carriers, with drivers licensed for that size of vehicle.
Rules worth knowing before you go
- A VTC has 4 to 9 seats including the driver and at least 4 doors, and shows the VTC sticker on the front and rear windscreens
- In Lyon's Presqu'île limited traffic zone, VTC and taxis keep permanent access, so passengers can be set down and picked up at hotels and restaurants
Late nights and the weekend around it
Plan two return runs rather than one: an early one for families and older guests, a late one for the dance floor. Waiting counts in the driver's working day, so a very late finish may mean a fresh driver for the final run.
Hen and stag weekends, the EVJF and EVG, work the same way: one minibus, a vineyard or a lake, and a driver so everyone gets home. In Lyon, VTC cars keep access to the Presqu'île limited traffic zone, so a small party can be set down at the restaurant door.
Your questions, answered
Do guests have to wear seat belts?
Yes, wherever the seat has one. A short line in the welcome note helps, especially for the run back after the party.
We are marrying near Annecy in winter. Anything special?
From 1 November to 31 March, vehicles in Haute-Savoie must have winter tyres or carry snow chains. Allow extra time on the mountain roads and keep the evening return simple.
How early should we book?
As soon as the venue and date are settled, especially for summer Saturdays. Send the guest numbers you have now and update them as the replies come in.
