Minibus Hire Across France

Montpellier by Minibus, with Your Own Driver

Montpellier is a city you explore on foot, with the sea and the Camargue close by. A minibus with a driver gets your group into the centre, then out to the salt marshes, the coast and the Roman sites.

Arriving and settling in

Flights land at Montpellier-Méditerranée, and the hop into town is only 10 km or so: count on a quarter of an hour when traffic is light. Coming by train? Look closely at your tickets. Saint-Roch drops you in the heart of town, whereas Sud de France is a TGV station out in the Cambacérès district, with tram line 1 as its link to the centre.

That second station is where a booked pickup earns its keep: no suitcases on the tram, just your driver waiting outside.

Where the minibus can stop

The Écusson, the old town, is mostly given over to pedestrians, so expect to walk the final few minutes. For coaches, the tourist office names just three set-down points in the centre, with room for one vehicle at each: the Mercure Centre (rue de la Spirale), the Ibis Centre Polygone (boulevard d'Antigone) and the Campanile by the station (rue Pagézy). One space means one quick, tidy stop, so have the group ready.

If the driver needs to wait longer, the coach parks are the Parking du Père Louis over in Port Marianne and the Lycée Joffre car park. Agree beforehand where you will find each other, so nobody heads for the wrong corner.

Flying in to Montpellier

Places your group will love in Montpellier

  • Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert — Medieval village and abbey above the Gorges de l'Hérault
  • Pont du Gard — Roman aqueduct bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a little over an hour by road; booking is compulsory for group visits, and there is coach parking on both banks (Vers-Pont-du-Gard and Remoulins)
  • Aigues-Mortes and the Camargue — Walled medieval town and salt marshes south-east of the city
  • Opéra Comédie and Le Corum — Opera, concerts and congresses in the city centre
  • Musée Fabre — Fine arts museum on the Esplanade, beside the Place de la Comédie; groups book guided visits in advance
  • Place de la Comédie and the Écusson historic centre — Main square and the largely pedestrian old town; the tourist office is on the Place de la Comédie

Where groups tend to stay

  • Coast: Palavas-les-Flots and La Grande-Motte
  • Pérols and Lattes (near the airport, the Parc des Expositions and the Sud de France Arena)
  • Odysseum (eastern edge, by the tram and the A709)
  • Antigone and Port Marianne (east of the centre)
  • City centre (Place de la Comédie, Gare Saint-Roch, the Écusson)

The low-emission zone, briefly

The low-emission zone here never switches off, and any vehicle driving in it must display a Crit'Air sticker. The métropole's 2025 guide is lenient on coaches: only diesels registered for the first time on or before 31 December 2013 are refused. Rules like these can move, so match your vehicle's sticker to the current rule before departure.

Easy days out

Aigues-Mortes, the walled town on the edge of the Camargue, is about 35 minutes away, and Sète about the same. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and the Gorges de l'Hérault take about 45 minutes, so a morning in the village and a slow lunch make one relaxed day.

The Pont du Gard is a little over an hour by road. Group visits there must be booked, and there is coach parking on both banks. Nîmes, Arles and Avignon all lie within about an hour and a quarter, so you can pair the aqueduct with one of them.

Your questions, answered

Can we be met at Montpellier Sud de France station?

Yes. It is outside the centre, so a booked minibus is often simpler than the tram when everyone has luggage. Send us your arrival time and how many bags you have.

Do we need to book the Musée Fabre?

Groups book guided visits with the museum in advance. It sits beside the Place de la Comédie, so it fits neatly into a morning in the old town.

When is traffic heavy near the airport?

The Foire internationale de Montpellier fills the Parc des Expositions at Pérols each October, and nearby roads get busy while it runs. Leave extra time for a flight that week.
